Domestic Violence is one of the main causes of homelessness in our community

The Phoenix of Gaia regularly presents community events to raise funds and awareness around domestic violence.

Our signature event We Say Her Name aims to create an opportunity where communities come together in a loving, joyous space for all to stand united and say no to domestic violence.

All proceeds from We Say Her Name events go to our chosen charity Women Up North.

About our chosen charity

Women Up North

We have chosen Women Up North as the sole beneficiary of our events because their vision “Empowerment, safety and equality for women, children and young people” aligns closely with ours.

Women Up North is a service for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic or family violence or abuse, operating in the Grafton to Tweed area.

They work with a diverse group of women, children and young people in our communities, with culturally sensitive support delivered by Aboriginal staff for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Women Up North connect people, services and businesses to unite against domestic and family violence affecting women, children and young people.

We say her name

We Say Her Name was our first fundraiser and aimed to raise awareness about the many faces that violence against women can take. The evening was hosted by local identity Mandy Nolan who was also guest speaking along with David Heilpern. We are proud to have had local Arakwal Bumberbin Bundjalung woman Delta Kay facilitating Welcome to country.
